Redact images — permanently black out sensitive areas

Cover faces, names, addresses, or account numbers in a screenshot or photo. FileX bakes the redaction into the pixels, so it cannot be peeled back like a drawing-app overlay — and it all happens in your browser.

How it works

  1. Open the Image Redact tool (a FileX Pro feature) and drop in your image.
  2. Draw solid blocks over anything sensitive.
  3. Export the flattened image; the covered pixels are gone, not hidden under a layer.

Why "black box in Word" is not redaction

Overlays added in document and image editors can often be moved or deleted to reveal what is underneath. True redaction destroys the underlying data. FileX flattens the redaction into the exported image so the original pixels do not survive.

Frequently asked questions

Can the redacted content be recovered?

No — the export contains only the blacked-out pixels; the original content beneath is discarded. And since it runs locally, the sensitive image is never uploaded in the first place.
